“Thanks again for your work today and for making it a great experience for the learners who came along, not to mention the staff.”

re: Philip Burton led a workshop for Burnley and District Writing Group on 25th April 2007

“Philip Burton involved and interacted with the group and was an inspiration. He gave us all encouragement and most of all encouragement to write poetry.

His topics are very creative and versatile – Phil can seem to adapt his talents to any subject. This is a rare gift…

It was a pleasure to participate in his workshops and the group as a whole (aged 18 to 80) found it a learning curve, stretching imaginations and creativity.”

– Kathleen Bulcock, Chairman, Burnley and District Writers’ Circle, July 2007

Gillian Clarke said of Philip’s prizewinning poem titled A Fine Line, “….a tribute to a craftsman of the past, lovingly imagined in seven rhyming and half-rhyming stanzas. I love the detail, the language of carpentry, horse-drawn wagons, and the turn of the mood in the penultimate line with the sad eye-line of Heartbreak Pier.

Mainstream Schools.

“I can recommend Philip to any school wishing to have a visiting poet. I am sure he will both entertain and educate. He is always welcome at Saint Hilda’s.”

– Mr J. Livesey, Head of English. Saint Hilda’s High School, Burnley.

What special schools say about Philip’s poetry days.

“…very enjoyable……a good time was had by both children and staff.”

– K Owen, Senior Teacher. The Lyndale Special School, Eastham, Wirral.

What the library service said…

“I have had some excellent feedback from both library staff and the schools involved. I would like to say how entertaining and relevant your performance was for the launch of our Reading Game and in such an unusual venue.”

– Sue Powell, Head of Library and Halls. Metropolitan Borough of Wirral.
